At the 5th Rotherham Scout Group, we prepare young people with skills for life. They can learn survival skills, first aid, cooking and even expedition skills that can lead on to Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

At the 5th Rotherham Scout Group, we prepare young people with skills for life. They can learn survival skills, first aid, cooking and even expedition skills that can lead on to Duke of Edinburgh Awards. It’s a wonderful way to have fun, make friends, get outdoors, express your creativity, and experience the wider world. There’s something for every young person, whatever their physical ability.
We believe in bringing people together. We celebrate diversity and stand against intolerance – always. We’re part of a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s you or your child who wants to join us, or even if your child is of joining age yet or not, because you can sign up now and ensure they are allocated a place when it becomes available.

Hello! I’m Ash — though in Scouts I’m known as Bosun (and you’ll often hear the young people call me “Bo-bo”!).
I volunteer as an Assistant Section Leader at 5th Rotherham (Maltby), and I genuinely love being part of the adventure. My children first joined the group as Beavers in 2015, and after seeing the impact Scouting had on them — the confidence, friendships, and life skills — I decided to get involved as a leader in 2019. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Outside of Scouts, I work as a Principal Consultant, mainly supporting organisations across Government and the Health sector. But Scouts gives me something my day job doesn’t: the chance to help young people learn by doing — to try new things, grow in confidence, and work as a team — while making the kind of memories that stick with them long after the session ends.
Whether it’s a challenge they didn’t think they could do, a laugh with friends, or a muddy adventure that becomes a story they tell for years, I love being part of creating those moments. It’s a privilege to play even a small role in a worldwide movement that helps young people grow — and I’m proud to be part of it here in Maltby.
